Hey Ladies....wanna race?
We have received some interest in starting a Powder Puff division to our races. The details haven't been worked out yet as far as dates, rules etc., but once they are everyone will receive the information. One important item is....the captains are permitted on board as a crew member and must hand over the helm once the 5 minute horn is blown.

Club Bar/Liquor License
We were hoping that the liquor license would be in place for this coming weekend, however we received word that it has been delayed. Commodore Nichols has been speaking with the Licensing Board and will continue to do so in hopes of speeding up the process.
We'll let you know when it's ready and the bar is open!

2011 Sailing Season
Last Thursday evening Slocum's Catch was introduced to a number of members who arrived early to the AGM. The Seafood Poutine received rave reviews and is a 'must try' for all. We express our thanks to Norm and the girls for allowing the club to hold it's meeting in their dining area. Slocum's Catch officially opened for the season on Saturday, May 28. Members are reminded that card holders receive a 10% discount and are encouraged to support the restaurant.
In total 38 members and guests attended the meeting in which various topics where discussed. The minutes have been sent out to all members via e-mail. If for some reason you were missed, please e-mail Sally at outrageous_lady@hotmail.com.
The 1st race was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with 5 boats competing: Slam, Segres, Bandera, Outrageous and Remy. It started out a bit rough with many sails reefed, but come start time the wind settled and made for a wonderful sail. See the Race page on the clubs website for results.

100th Anniversary in 2012
From Charles....
I was just throwing out some notes I made earlier this summer....I guess I was thinking about what might be fun for the Yacht Club, and what plans should be in our minds.
So...2012 will be the 100th anniversary of the club. It really needs to be celebrated in some significant way.
Thomas Shenstone has talked of hosting a national meet for Tanzer 22' boats. Apparently there are a lot of them. They can be trailered, and could put on quite a show.
There might be a chance to invite Halifax boats to meet Saint John boats here...
Easier to stage, maybe as an opener for the new premises would be a Frenchies fashion show. We could tie that in with a gig for the little jazz band that we have in town. Their music is my kind....I'm not so sure that you young folks all appreciate those old favourites, but my peer group would love it I'm sure.

Blog Welcome
So, now that the 'transaction' is in the works we'd better get our heads together and start to figure out how we are going to pull this off. And since no one has a bunch of hours to waste at weekly meetings, I thought we'd try some online brainstorming with the help of this blog.
No matter what level of interest you have in this 'social committe', I ask that you contribute your thoughts, ideas and suggestions, bookmark this site, ask others to join and so on. Everyone will be called on for help at some point, so don't worry that you'll be left out.
Eventually a physical meeting will be called, and at that point, we'll welcome everyone who wants to participate.
